This month’s Spark16 Newsletter written by the Wellness Councils of America has an excellent suggestion for grocery shopping.

The outside aisles offer nutritious, whole foods- think produce, lean meats and low-fat dairy. Limit purchases from the interior aisles. The inside aisles contain an endless array of factory-made, nutritionally defunct processed foods (cookies, chips, sugary cereals, etc.).

Shopping on the peripheral aisles can help you focus on wholesome foods that help prevent disease and improve your health.  Fresh produce such as colorful veggies like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, squash and other fruits and veggies which help provide the natural nutrients your body will use.

A good rule of thumb is to buy the bulk of your food from the outside aisles.
