Regular exercise can make you smarter!
The July Wellness Newsletter highlights research that suggests walking or other cardio type exercise helps prevent a decline of brain function as we age. Thirty minutes of exercise in adults or twenty minutes in children shows a 5-10% improvement in cognitive functions. The journal Neurology recently reported that older individuals who walked regularly had significantly larger brains and better memory than those who did not walk as much.
Not only does exercise reduce your risk for heart disease, but it also reduces the risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The library and the gym has a positive effect on how your brain works!
